We invited Levo League member Jacqueline Sue Mills (@JackieSueMills) to join our team of bloggers covering the inaugural 2013 Indiana Governor’s Conference for Women (#INGC13) on Nov. 5th. Here’s her take on the excitement around this historic event. Thank you Jackie!
With so many terrific speakers at the first Indiana Governor’s Conference for Women on November 5, it’s hard to imagine more of a dream lineup of talented, inspirational women coming to the Circle City.
Each of the three breakout sessions during the conference has awesome options–it’s going to be difficult for attendees to decide where to go. (I’ll probably try to attend some part of every session offered. Multitasking at it’s finest!) Here are some of the top breakout sessions you’ll definitely want to check out:
- Bright & Early Morning: Let’s be honest–everyone agrees that they could use more time. That’s why I’m particularly excited to attend the session on “168 Hours: Succeeding At Work and Life 24/7.” I’ve been a longtime fan of Laura Vanderkam and her time management tips that go beyond the normal to-do lists. I’m especially intrigued by her recommendations around examining productivity over a week instead of by a day.
- Midday Communication Building: In the modern workplace, it’s an everyday reality that we have to work with all different types of communicators. After watching this TEDx talk from Susan Cain on “The Power of Introverts,” I’ve seen more research emerge around the dynamics of leveraging introverts and extroverts. I’m really looking forward to to hearing about “Quiet Influence: The Introvert’s Guide to Making a Difference” with Jennifer Kahnweiler and applying her lessons to my own style of work.
- Afternoon Career Awareness: I’ve had the pleasure of seeing Caroline Dowd-Higgins speak before, and she is nothing short of phenomenal! Her panel with Allison Loetta, Kyla Cox, Nashara Mitchell, and Jan Long on “Career Transformations: How to Reignite Your Career Passion in an Existing Role or Navigate a Career Reinvention” will definitely not disappoint. No matter where you are in your career, I know everyone can benefit from hearing how to design the career of their dreams from these successful ladies.
Of course, how could you not be excited about seeing the amazing Martha Stewart and Charlotte Beers at lunch? Talk about power lunching!! I’m thrilled to hear them share their career insights and learn how they achieved so much in their respective industries. Plus, I’m planning to drop by the two Dolphin Tank sessions as time allows–so many great companies and pitching and poised for major success!
As you can see, the Indiana Governor’s Conference for Women should be a phenomenal event! I hope you can join me!
